We reside at 7851 ft elevation in Colorado. We live in a sweet little micro climate with abundant sunshine, wonderful soil and pure water. It is an area where our lavender plants should thrive. Our research has shown that lavender plants grown at higher elevations will produce more esters which give the oil a more fruity aroma.
We chose 5 different varieties of Lavandula Angustifolia, commonly referred to as English Lavender to grow on our lavender farm. English Lavender is considered to be more cold hardy than the French Lavender. The varieties we will plant are Buena Vista, Folgate, Irene Doyle, Royal Velvet and Sharon Roberts. We are hopeful that all will do well. We have tilled and amended the soil for 480 plants.

People say to follow your dreams. So, here we go.
My grandma introduced me to lavender in my childhood and bestowed her love of this plant to me. I have in turn bestowed this love to my husband, who never knew he wanted to be a lavender farmer until now.
We are not farmers by trade, we are in healthcare. After doing research and realizing the health benefits related to lavender, we felt that this was the perfect fit for us. We realize that we have a huge learning curve ahead but we will not be deterred.
This will be an adventure and hopefully one that will carry us well into our retirement years. What a sweet (no pun intended) way to spend our time together. We will be doing what we love while giving back with what we do.

Lavender dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. It's believed to have originated in the Mediterranean, Middle East and India. Lavender is a flowering plant of the mint family. It is known for its healing, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and cosmetic qualities.
Our lavender will hopefully bring comfort and also joy for those who breathe in the sweet scent. In addition we will create fine culinary items such as peppers, salts and sugars. We will be selling our lavender farm products locally at the farmer's markets.
